Earthquake Rumbles Along California-Mexico Border
OCOTILLO, Imperial Co. (AP) - A modest earthquake has hit a sparsely populated area east of San Diego.
The U.S. Geological Survey reports that the magnitude-4.6 temblor struck at 12:39 p.m. Thursday near the seismically active California-Mexico border.
The temblor was centered about 9 miles north of Ocotillo and 25 miles west-northwest of El Centro, the Imperial County seat in California's southeastern corner.
A call to the Imperial County Sheriff's Department was not immediately returned.
San Diego County Sheriff's Lt. Mike Munsey says there are no reports of damage. The epicenter also was near the San Diego County line.
