Early-Morning Quakes Jolt East Bay
WALNUT CREEK (BCN) -- A magnitude 3.2 earthquake struck the East Bay Sunday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The quake, which jolted residents just before 3:10 a.m., was centered four miles south of Walnut Creek and 11 miles east-northeast of Oakland, according to the USGS.
The USGS said that the tremor had a depth of 5.3 miles.
A second earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 2.4 was reported in the East Bay just minutes after the earlier quake shook the area.
The aftershock was reported just before 3:20 a.m. and was centered in the same location -- four miles south of Danville and 11 miles east-northeast of Oakland, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The second quake had a depth of 4.1 miles, the USGS said.
