Durant Recalls First Meeting With Steph Curry
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- During this age of elite young sports, it probably shouldn't be too much of a surprise that Golden State Warriors superstars Steph Curry and Kevin Durant met while still in elementary school.
But it was before the social media explosion so Durant's retelling of the meeting has a strange twist.
"I was about 10 years old and our AAU team went down to Charlotte to play," he said on NBA2K. "I thought he was white...This yellow kid, right? Let's be real now. Where I come from you don't see light skin guys, it's all guys like me...So I walk into the gym and there is this guy at half court shooting a jump shot...He started making them. It was splash, splash. When we played him he scored like 35 points and he was 10 years old. I was like 'Who is this?' 10 years later I was like -- 'Wow, that was Steph Curry.'"
"It's crazy how you cross paths with these guys and you're kids and don't know. And then once you — it's like wow, it's pretty cool to see him at that age."
Curry and Durant lead the 16-2 Warriors against Houston Rockets Wednesday night with a lead-leading 12-game win streak on the line.
