Dump Truck Plunges 250 Feet Down Ravine Near Stinson Beach
MARIN COUNTY (CBS SF) -- CHP and fire crews were involved in a rescue operation on the Marin County Coast after a dump truck traveling along Highway 1 plunged 250 feet over the side of a cliff.
The vehicle lost control and ended up down a ravine near Stinson Beach.
The passengers were trapped inside the dump truck and had to be extricated.
Video shows a CHP chopper airlifting one of the people rescued from the truck.
Two others were able to climb out on their own. So far there is no word on the extent of their injuries.
That stretch of Highway 1 has tight turns and sheer cliffs. During the rescue, authorities were forced to shut down traffic in both directions for a time.
Authorities did not say if the driver missed a turn or whether something went wrong with the truck to cause the accident.
