DUI Suspect Arrested After Allegedly Causing 5-Car Crash
SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) -- A man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in Santa Rosa Friday evening after allegedly causing a five-car crash that left three people injured, police said Saturday.
Police said the collision occurred around 5:15 p.m., when a Toyota Tacoma speeding down Hoen Avenue toward Yulupa Avenue rear-ended a car stopped at a red light.
The force of the crash caused three more cars stopped at the light to collide, causing major damage to each of the cars and leaving three drivers with minor injuries, police said.
One of the drivers was taken to a hospital to be treated for their injuries.
Four children under 12 years old who were riding in one of the cars were unharmed, according to police.
Officers investigating the crash saw that the driver of the Toyota Tacoma, identified as 69-year-old Jose Antonio Franco of Santa Rosa, showed clear signs of intoxication.
Police said test results showed that his blood alcohol level was at twice the legal limit.
He was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and taken to county jail, where he is being held on $100,000 bail.
