Woman Arrested For DUI In Hayward Power Pole Crash
HAYWARD (CBS SF) -- A woman was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after crashing into a power pole in Hayward early Friday morning, a police sergeant said.
The crash was reported at about 1:20 a.m. in the 25000 block of Campus Drive near Highland Boulevard.
Chaunta Wells, 35, a Hayward resident, was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of DUI, police Sgt. Mark Ormsby said.
The power pole was knocked down by Wells' vehicle, leaving 10 customers without power, PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian said.
Sarkissian said the customers will not likely have their power restored until the afternoon because getting a new power pole and installing it is "a timely process."
Ormsby said the crash also knocked power out to traffic lights in the area and that police have set up signs to help with the flow of traffic.
