Drones Don The Duds At Silicon Valley Fashion Week
SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) - Silicon Valley fashion week kicked off in San Francisco Tuesday with drones and humans showing off what passes for fashion in the tech industry.
In the past, fashion has never been a passion in the valley. In fact, the regions biggest taste maker ever - Steve Jobs – was known to exclusively wear jeans and a turtleneck during big presentations. But that may be changing.
"It's time to fuse fashion and technology. Right here, right now," said Craig Lindland of BetaBrand, one of the event's organizers.
If the huge crowd at the kickoff event – which only a fire marshal would have loved – was any indication, there's a big market for the latest in casual clothing with a touch of tech innovation.
"The Apple Watch will be the most fashionable accessory this year. This is the biggest thing coming out of the valley," said Lindland. "So, like it or not, people who are creating those things are affecting people all over the world."
Tuesday's kickoff event at the Chapel on San Francisco's Vallencia St. had more of a Burning Man vibe than a startup feel. The gear focused on "commuting and work wear," and appeared to be a preview of Thursday's Bike to Work Day. There were driverless skateboards, glowing hoodies and of course, the drones.
