Santa Clara Drone Store Burglary Caught On Camera
SANTA CLARA (KPIX 5) -- A break-in at a drone store in the South Bay was caught on camera, and this isn't the first time it's happened. At least three drone stores up and down the West Coast have been targeted, leading police to believe they may be part of a larger coordinated attack.
It's the one downside to selling the technology everyone wants to get their hands on... sometimes that includes thieves as well.
"There's two guys, mask, gloves, basically coming in to the store running around," said Armin Monajemi, manager of Drones Plus in Santa Clara.
In business less than a month, Drones Plus has already become a victim of a break-in.
"They came in and left in less than one and a half minutes," Monajemi said.
The crime was captured on security camera video. Thieves can be seen crawling into the showroom after breaking out a storefront window.
Monajemi said Drones Plus stores in Southern California and Vancouver, Canada have also been targeted.
"Our products are pretty hot," Monajemi said. "These drones, these are interesting pieces and of course everybody wants to play with them."
Santa Clara police say they haven't been able to identify the suspects yet. Monajemi said the silver lining is that the thieves didn't get their hands on many of the high-dollar drones the store sells.
"Right before we close, we take everything. All the drones, all the cameras, everything and put them in a safe inventory cage we have back there," Monajemi said.
