Driver Killed In Oakland I-880 On-Ramp Crash
OAKLAND (CBS SF) - A driver was killed in Oakland Tuesday afternoon when a van went off the roadway and hit a tree near northbound Interstate Highway 880, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene, apparently crossed over the High Street freeway on-ramp, went down an embankment, and hit a tree at 2:10 p.m., Officer Peter Van Eckhardt said.
No other injuries were reported.
The on-ramp was closed for about 45 minutes while emergency crews responded to the accident, but traffic was flowing again by about 3:35 p.m., Van Eckhardt said.
The van was a 1991 gray Oldsmobile Silhouette, he said.
Information about the driver was not immediately available.
