SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Police are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred late Thursday night in Hayward.
At 11:29 p.m., workers in the area of 30640 San Clemente St. reported a vehicle collision to police.
Police and fire crews responded to the scene and found a Ford SUV, with one occupant still inside the vehicle.
Based on preliminary investigation, police said the vehicle was likely traveling northbound on San Clemente Street, approaching San Antonio Street when it traveled off the roadway to the right for an undetermined reason.
The SUV collided with a fire hydrant and then a tree, causing major damage to the area surrounding the driver's side door, police said.
