Driver In Fatal Novato Crash Booked Into Juvenile Hall
NOVATO (BCN) -- A 16-year-old driver involved in a fatal crash in Novato Friday was released from Marin General Hospital and booked into Marin County juvenile hall Tuesday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said.
The Novato High School boy was booked on felony charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI, and a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license, CHP Officer Chris Rardin said.
The crash on Novato Boulevard at Bowman Canyon Creek killed 15-year-old Isaac Brott and injured the driver and three other teens, all Novato High School students. Their names have not been released because they are juveniles.
Two of the teens were taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and two to Marin General Hospital. A 17-year-old boy remained in Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital today. He was taken off life support and is expected to survive, the CHP said.
The Marin County District Attorney's Office said today the case is still under review regarding charges that will be filed against the driver. The CHP said alcoholic beverage containers were found in and around the car.
A viewing and vigil for Brott is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church in Novato, and a mass will be held there at 11 a.m. Friday.
The teens were riding in a BMW that spun out west of San Marin Drive into the path of an eastbound tractor-trailer hauling cattle around 11:50 a.m., the CHP said.
Two 17-year-old boys were ejected into a field, the CHP said.
The driver of the 2005 Kenworth big-rig, Ken Smith of Mountain Home, Idaho, was not injured.
