Drive-By Shooting Leaves 1 Dead In San Jose
SAN JOSE (BCN) - A drive-by shooting in San Jose Monday night left a 20-year-old man dead and police searching for clues to identify his killers, a police officer said.
Police responded to the 1900 block of Poco Way after reports of gunfire at 11:05 p.m., San Jose police Officer Jose Garcia said.
Officers found the fatally wounded man who had been shot at least once. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later, Garcia said.
Witnesses told police that they heard a vehicle leaving the area, but were unable to provide a description because it fled unseen. Garcia said police are assuming that the vehicle was the getaway vehicle.
"It was, in essence, a drive-by shooting, and we are investigating it as a gang-related shooting," Garcia said.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the San Jose police homicide unit at (408) 277-5283, or anonymously by calling the Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at (408) 947-STOP (7867).
Monday night's violence marks San Jose's sixth homicide this year, although Garcia said that it will officially become the seventh homicide when police account for the victim of a December robbery and stabbing who died earlier this month.
