Dozens Of Miniature Horses Up For Adoption In Brentwood
BRENTWOOD (KPIX 5) -- Dozens of rescued miniature horses have arrived in the Bay Area from Northern California and many of them need new homes.
Angels for Minis, a Brentwood-based horse care and rescue facility, received 47 horses from the Redding area, all from one owner.
"A woman had over two hundred horses and surrendered 47 to us because she simply can't care for all of them," Angels for Minis co-founder Bob Beck told KPIX 5.
Animal rescuers said they have seen a glut of mini horses. Many of them are dumped or surrendered by pet owners unable to pay for their upkeep.
Mary Stewart, a co-founder for Angels for Minis, said they have about 35 more horses that they need to place in new homes.
All animals rescued will receive vaccinations, their hooves trimmed as well as a bath. Students from the University of California, Davis Veterinary School will also give the horses a checkup this weekend.
