Dozens Displaced By Oakland Apartment Building Fire
OAKLAND (KCBS) – Eight apartments were damaged in a two-alarm fire Monday night in Oakland.
Fire officials said 40 to 45 residents were displaced in the blaze, which was reported at 5:35 p.m. at 86 Linda Ave, near Piedmont.
Oakland Fire Battalion Chief William Towner said the fire appears to have started in the garage area of the 38-unit building and spread to three floors through a vertical shaft in the structure.
Six of the eight apartments that were affected by the fire sustained moderate to heavy damage.
Towner said that most of the displaced residents found their own accommodations, but six to eight people were assisted by the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
