Downtown San Jose Businesses Gear Up For Huge Week Of Events
SAN JOSE (KCBS) -- A string of events at HP Pavilion has downtown San Jose businesses anticipating what could be one of the busiest and most profitable weeks in recent memory.
Teal- clothed fans will fill the Shark Tank Friday and Sunday to see the Sharks in the Western Conference Finals of the Stanley Cup Playoffs Friday and Sunday.
Thursday night, purple was the predominant color as Prince played the first of two concerts on his Welcome 2 America tour at the arena. Saturday will be the second.
Monday, the crew at HP Pavilion will turn around the arena for the cast of the popular TV show "Glee," who will perform Tuesday and Wednesday.
In addition, the Big Wow Comicfest, the South Bay's largest comic book fair, will be held at the San Jose Convention Center Saturday and Sunday, and is expected to add thousands more attendees downtown.
Finally, on Thursday, May 26 the Sharks may be back for a possible Game 6.
KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:
All these people coming through is good news for businesses in the area, says Richard Aranda, the general manager at the restaurant Henry's Hi-Life, located one block from HP Pavilion.
Aranda was busy ordering more of everything to be ready for an influx of customers.
"We don't want to run out of anything this week," he said. "This is a big weekend."
Scott Knies at the Downtown Association, which represents 1,800 businesses, lives for weeks like this.
"It's amazing, we've got sports, we've got concerts, all in the next eight days," he said. "The building is rocking."
