Donations Pour In For Oakland Mother Of 2 Sons Killed Within 3 Weeks
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Friends and family are raising money for a mother who lost both of her teenage sons in two separate shootings in Oakland within three weeks of each other.
A GoFundMe site was set up earlier this week and has exceeded its goal of raising $10,000 for funeral arrangements and other costs for Dinyal New, of Oakland.
New is the mother of a 13-year-old boy and an older son killed in shootings on Dec. 31 and Jan. 19, respectively.
Donors had given more than $30,000 through the site as of Thursday afternoon.
On Sunday, two people were found dead in a car around 2:15 p.m. near 100th and Longfellow avenues.
Police have not identified the victims, but friends and family said one of the victims was Lamar Broussard, 19, who was the older brother of 13-year-old Lee Weathersby III, a student at Oakland's Alliance Academy.
Lee was shot on New Year's Eve near 104th Avenue and Walnut Street and died the next day at the hospital.
His funeral was on Jan. 16 in Oakland, just days before his brother was fatally shot.
There have not been arrests in either case, according to police.
On the fundraising website for New, a message says that New is now childless and she "has recently experienced a mother's worst nightmare."
On New's Facebook page, she posted early this morning, "I just want to go home and my boys be there."
On Tuesday she wrote, "I just broke down and cried when I had to sign yet another release of deceased body form from (the Alameda County coroner's bureau) over to the funeral home...I just did that for Lee on the 6th of January."
Donations can be made at the fundraising site at www.gofundme.com/6eybok.
