Did Fugitive Mexican Drug Kingpin's Son Post Photo Of 'El Chapo' On Twitter?

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS) -- There's a new development in the manhunt for one of the world's most wanted men.

This week a picture of someone resembling Mexico's notorious drug cartel kingpin "El Chapo" was posted on a Twitter page purported to belong to Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman's son.

The caption: "Agustooo aqui ya saben con quien apatoroo..." -- translation: "comfortable here, you already know with who..."

Flanked by two unidentified men whose faces are covered by oversized emojis -- the photo appears to show 29-year-old Alfredo Guzman sitting at a restaurant with a man whose mustache resembles that of his father's.

It's clear from some of the comments many hope it is El Chapo.

"These men give more to Mexico than our rotten government," one user wrote. Another wrote, "be safe, my hero."

The location tag on the photo says Costa Rica.

CNN contacted Costa Rican authorities who said -- "We're aware of the picture that has surfaced, but we believe the Costa Rica they're talking about is not in our country, but a town in Mexico. There are no current investigations or operations targeting Mr. Guzmán in Costa Rica."

There is a small fishing town about 30 minutes south of Cuilacan, Sinaloa Mexico and coincidentally that's the same state in Mexico where El Chapo was born.

A spokesman for Mexico's Attorney General's office in charge of the manhunt for El Chapo told CNN "we are aware of the photo and looking into it."

It was nearly two months ago that Mexican authorities announced El Chapo – the world's most notorious drug trafficker -- escaped Mexico's maximum security Altiplano prison through a tunnel that stretched for more than a mile.

El Chapo has been on the run ever since with no signs of his whereabouts.

Guzman is the boss of Mexico's powerful Sinaloa Cartel. Recently unsealed indictments revealed the cartel imported cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana and other drugs into Mexico, and then smuggled them into San Diego. He is considered to be one of the most powerful and richest drug traffickers in the world.

The U.S. government has offered a $5 million reward for information leading to his capture.

If the twitter photo actually is the Mexican drug lord, the post is nearly as bold and brazen as his escape.

The drug kingpin's son seems to be mocking authorities, showing his father hiding in plain view. Whether it was to brag, by mistake, or to throw investigators off track, many are left wondering if he intended to leave the location tag on the photo.

El Chapo has been known to boast about his lavish and opulent lifestyle. Many people believe that this very well could be a photo of the world's most wanted fugitive.

Mexican authorities said they're looking into it.
