WINDSOR (CBS SF) -- Sonoma County sheriff's deputies fatally shot a man suspected of stabbing a 60-year-old woman in front of Starbucks on the Town Green in Windsor Saturday morning.
According to a news release sent by the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, a 911 call was made about a stabbing at 1001 McClelland Drive at 7:29 a.m. Deputies arrived within two minutes and tended to the victim, who was allegedly suffering from stab wounds.
A male suspect was seen running north on the Town Green toward the Windsor Police Department when deputies confronted him, according to the sheriff's office. The man allegedly wielded a knife, and repeated requests for him to drop the weapon were ignored.
The suspect allegedly began stabbing himself, forcing deputies to use a Taser gun, which had no effect. When the suspect lunged toward the officers, they shot the man, according to the sheriff's office report.
The man was pronounced dead at 7:38 a.m. His identity has not been released.
There is no word on the condition of the woman at this time.
The Santa Rosa Police Department and the Sonoma County District Attorney's office are investigating the officer-involved shooting.
