Democrats, Republicans Spar In Sacramento Over Jobs
SACRAMENTO (KCBS) -- With another major company threatening to leave California, Democrats and Republicans are squabbling even more over who's to blame, and some key Republican lawmakers are dismissing a plan that Democratic leaders say will help Californians get back to work.
Waste Connections, the largest publicly traded company in Sacramento, is threatening to move to Texas because the legislature tabled a bill that would help it expand. That threat came even as Senate president pro tem Darrell Steinberg was announcing a plan to change regulations on California business.
KCBS' Doug Sovern Reports:
"Here we're standing with business leaders to actually move forward specific, important legislation that will help create jobs," said Steinberg.
Chief Republican Assembly Whip Dan Logue called the bill a hypocritical dog and pony show
"I'm not interested in having them roll out a program that looks good," he said. "I'm interested in some real action."
Steinberg said creating jobs is not a partisan issue, and that this is just the first of what will be many steps to get it done.
