Dell Opens Massive New Facility In Santa Clara
SANTA CLARA (KCBS) – Hundreds of new jobs are coming to Silicon Valley as one of the world's largest tech companies opened a facility in Santa Clara on Wednesday.
Dell opened a 240,000 square foot research and development center on Great America Parkway near Highway 237.
"We're here because of the talent and the highly skilled workforce that will enable Dell to continue to innovate, to take risks and to drive the new developments in our business," said company founder Michael Dell.
KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:
Governor Jerry Brown, who was one of the dignitaries on hand for the ribbon cutting, applauded the company for opening a facility in California.
"We continue to be a place of pioneers, of people who have left one place because they want to make something better," said Brown. "And that's the genius of California."
The company also held an on-site career fair to recruit workers for the new center. Dan Fettke came looking for a position in software development.
"It's great when other companies are cutting back, laying people off and shipping their employees overseas, it's great to see a company building this brand new facility right here in Silicon Valley," said Fettke.
