Delivery Worker Escapes San Rafael Rape Attempt

SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) - A delivery woman escaped from a man who tried to rape her when she delivered food to his home in San Rafael's Canal neighborhood on Wednesday night, police said.

The woman was delivering food to a home in the 3600 block of Kerner Boulevard when the man grabbed her, forced her onto a couch and attempted to sexually assault her, San Rafael police said.

The woman was able to defend herself and escape without injury. After the attack was reported, officers went to the home at about 8:20 p.m. and located the man, identified as 38-year-old Fermin Mejia-Hernandez, police said.

Mejia-Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of assault with intent to commit rape, attempted rape and a Marin County misdemeanor warrant. He was booked into jail and is being held on $100,000 bail.
