Delayed Bay Area Bike Share Expansion Could Move Forward With New Push For Funding
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— Supporters of Bay Area Bike Share are hoping to get expansion plans back in the fast lane after financial woes have created delays.
The newly-formed North American Bike Share Association held its first meeting last week.
Plans have been on hold while the company that produces the bikes and stations filed for bankruptcy and the firm that handles operations is up for sale.
San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency senior planner Heath Maddox said he hopes 17 new stations can be added as soon as this spring.

"Our existing service area stops at Van Ness and so we would go up Market as far as the Castro and perhaps put a station in Hayes Valley and the Duboce Triangle," Maddox said.
One goal, according to Maddox, is to get bike-share programs across the country to work together.
"We've all been kind of comparing notes, but this just allows us to formalize our relationships," he said.
The Bay Area Bike Share plan also calls for adding 15 new stations in the Peninsula.
