Dead Napa Inmate Had Ingested Methamphetamine Powder
NAPA (CBS SF) – A Napa County jail inmate who was found dead in his cell had ingested two small plastic bags filled with methamphetamines, the coroner revealed on Tuesday.
The coroner's bureau said that an autopsy of 44-year-old Christopher Applegarth found two small bags in his digestive system. Both contained white powder identified as methamphetamine.
One of the bags had opened, leaking a fatal amount of the illegal drug into his body.
The coroner said the overdose was the cause of Applegarth's death.
No signs of trauma were found in the autopsy and foul play in his death had been ruled out.
Applegarth, 44, was found unresponsive by a Napa County Department of Corrections officer around 8:35 a.m. on Feb. 7th.
After attempts to revive him, he was pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel, according to spokeswoman Kristi Jourdan.
Applegarth was in custody after he was arrested by sheriff's deputies on a state parole violation warrant.
