Daylight Saving Time Ends Sunday
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS / AP) -- Most Americans will get and extra hour of sleep this weekend thanks to the annual shift back to standard time.
State officials reminded California residents that this is the weekend they should turn their clocks back to mark this year's end of daylight-saving time.
The change to standard time occurs at 2 a.m. Sunday. But most folks will "fall back" and set their clocks back one hour before they go to bed Saturday night to make sure they're in synch with their neighbors on Sunday morning.
Residents of Hawaii, most of Arizona and some U.S. territories don't have to change since they do not observe daylight-saving time.
Daylight saving time returns at 2 a.m. local time the second Sunday in March.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal reminds Californians that each time-change is a good time for residents to put a new battery in their home's smoke alarms. Fire officials said the warning provided by smoke alarms doubles an individual's chances of surviving a residential fire.
