Dave Matthews Packs Thomas Jefferson's House On Fourth of July

(CBS SF/AP) - Dave Matthews has packed Thomas Jefferson's house. Officials at the Thomas Jefferson Foundation tell The Daily Progress the rocker's scheduled Fourth of July address to new U.S. citizens being sworn in at Jefferson's Monticello in Charlottesville, Va., has sold out.

The ceremony has been held annually at Monticello for 50 years. More than 3,000 immigrants have become U.S. citizens on the Fourth of July at the Charlottesville mountain estate.

Foundation officials say they plan to live-stream the ceremony for the first time at Monticello.org.

Matthews was born in South Africa and became a naturalized citizen in 1980. Dave Matthews Band got its start in Charlottesville, where the University of Virginia (founded by Jefferson) is located.

Dave Matthews Band is on tour this summer, making a Bay Area stop on September 8 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View.
