Daily Madden: Women's World Cup PK Finish
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The Japanese women's soccer team outkicked the U.S. in the penalty-kick shootout finale to take the Women's World Cup Sunday. John told the KCBS morning crew it was an exciting finish, especially for viewers who don't follow soccer.
"For a fan that really doesn't understand soccer and is trying to watch it because they should be watching it, and isn't really exactly sure what they watched, when they do get into that penalty-kick situation, you really do understand it, and it's pretty exciting."
Some soccer fans don't like a penalty-kick shootout to end a match. But Madden said the drama of a PK finish could attract new soccer fans. "You've got your hardcore fans thatare going to watch all the time, be there all the time, understand the game, play the game, are excited about it," Madden said. "Then you get the guys like me that when there's a big game you want to watch... (Penalty kicks) are something that really does hook you." (8:30)
