Daily Madden: Will RG III Have To Change His Game?
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III had ACL and LCL surgery Wednesday on the knee injured in Washington's loss to the Seattle Seahawks. It's not clear if he'll be able to return for the start of the 2013 season.
"You wonder when he does rehab and recover, how they're going to play him," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "Some of the things that really made him effective, you would guess they'll have to eliminate."
The Redskin offense is built around Griffin's ability to run the ball. "That was their offense, that pistol and speed option," said Madden. "One of the options is the quarterback running with the ball... If you take that out of there, they'd have to change their whole offense."
Madden said whether he will still be able to run well is not the issue. "It's not that the running is bad, it's that there has to be an end to the running, and once you become a runner you have no quarterback protection."
