Daily Madden: Why The Warriors Felt The Need To Foul
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - At the end of the Warriors' 140-109 loss to the Rockets Tuesday night, Golden State coach Mark Jackson had his team intentionally foul Rockets players to prevent them from setting an NBA record for three-pointers.
John Madden told the KCBS morning crew he knows where Jackson was coming from.
"You're losing the game, but you still want to compete," Madden said. "You don't want someone to break a record against you. I understand that. You get in the depths of competition, and you have that mindset, and you're going to compete for everything... Maybe they're going to get a record, but they're not going to get it against me. So I can understand that."
The Rockets tied the NBA record with 23 three-pointers in the game.
There's still talk of moving the NFL Pro Bowl to the week after the Super Bowl instead of playing it the week before.
"You talk about the definition of anti-climactic," Madden said. "Who would care? No one cares about the Pro Bowl anyway, we know that."
Madden said this year's Pro Bowl was an improvement over last year's, when it appeared most players didn't compete to win.
"It wasn't a lot better, but it was as good as it's going to get, so if the powers that be can't live with that, then they ought to get rid of it," said the former coach. (8:00)
