John Madden's Pick For The Super Bowl
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - John Madden likes the New England Patriots over the New York Giants in Sunday's Super Bowl, partly because of experience.
"I just have a tough time going against (QB) Tom Brady and (coach) Bill Belichick," the former coach told the KCBS morning crew. "They've been there all year. Tom Brady didn't have a great game in the championship game, and I can't see him having two games like that back to back."
New England tight end Rob Gronkowski practiced for the first time Thursday since injuring his ankle in the AFC championship game two weeks ago. John said only the most serious injuries will sideline a player in the Super Bowl.
"Man, it's tough to hold someone back. I mean if you get this far, and you get to the Super Bowl. If there's any way at all that you can be out there, you're going to be out there. So Rob Gronkowski, I'm sure he's going to play. I think he'll play pretty effectively because he's so big and strong and he's also fast."
New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin has looked relaxed and cheerful as he prepared his team for the game this week.
"You get to the Super Bowl and it's going to be the highlight of your life," Madden said. "But you better win it. And you better enjoy it, because if it's going to be a highlight, and it's going to be one of the best times of your life, then act like it." (8:15)
