Daily Madden: Who Says You Can't Fire the Owner?
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - John Madden used to say about pro sports teams that you can fire everyone except the owner. He told the KCBS morning crew Friday that Major League Baseball proved him wrong this week when commissioner Bud Selig announce the league was going to take over operation of the Los Angeles Dodgers from embattled owner Frank McCourt.
Madden said pro sports teams miss the "patriarchs" of the old days who managed their teams well and kept the franchise healthy. "That's one of the things the NFL could use now," Madden said. "I don't know in any sport who the patriarch is anymore."
Packers quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Aaron Rodgers said he's disappointed he won't be the Madden 12 video game cover boy, which is decided by fan voting. Madden acknowledged there might be some truth to the theory that Green Bay fans didn't vote for Rodgers to avoid the "Madden curse."
"Some people said they were trying to vote to get their guy in," said Madden. "Then when they lose, it was the home town trying to get them out."
Madden said either Eagles quarterback Michael Vick or Browns running back Peyton Hillis will grace the cover. The final vote will be announced Monday. (8:20)
