Daily Madden: Vick's Late Hit Complaint
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is complaining that he's getting hit late and that officials aren't throwing flags.
Vick was injured in the Eagles' 29-16 loss to the New York Giants Sunday.
"I think he has a point, but I don't think he's a lone ranger," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "There are some quarterbacks that seem to be protected a little more than others, and that would be the obvious -- Peyton Manning when he's healthy and Tom Brady and those guys. You know they're not going to run and they're going to be there in the pocket so they get a little more protection."
Madden said it's a different story for a running quarterback like Michael Vick.
"The guys that run I think always get less protection because they may run out of it... (The officials) are afraid of that inadvertent whistle... Do I blow the whistle to protect him or do I let it go a little while? But that's still no excuse for letting a guy hit him after he throws the ball... That's something that has to be looked at."
