Daily Madden: Two 'Old Salts' To Manage World Series
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The World Series match-up between the Giants and Tigers features two managers, Bruce Bochy and Jim Leyland, with a lot of post-season experience.
"They remind me of two 'old salts,'" John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "I think there's something solid about an 'old salt," and I think players understand that and feed off that."
Madden said Bochy in particular has been impressive in managing the Giants to victory through numerous elimination games.
"Every move he makes seems to make sense...If you were a player, you would know that he's in there with you."
Bochy and Leyland have a lot in common, Madden said.
"Those are smart guys, and they just know what it takes to win... You get the feeling that both of these guys, as they work through a season and work through a series, know what the end is supposed to look like."
Much has been made of the cast of characters on the Giants roster.
"They still have to win," Madden said. "If they were in the middle of the pack or below the pack, would they be characters then?" (7:25)
