Daily Madden: Time To End The 'Pathetic' Pro Bowl
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - John Madden wasn't impressed by Sunday's Pro Bowl, notable for little defense and half-speed offense as the AFC beat the NFC 59-41. "That should be the end of it," Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "It was pathetic. It was embarrassing to pro football. And if they're going to play like that -- or not play like that -- there shouldn't even be a game."
Madden said it's time to try something different. "I was thinking maybe they could do something with the senior bowl, which is the all star game with the college players, and have pro coaches, and do something with that," Madden said. "They just can't keep embarrassing themselves. Heck, the fans in Hawaii were booing them."
Madden said the NFL would still need to recognize the league's best players. "There has to be something where you would get the honor of being chosen... Those are big things in a pro football player's career." But he's firm in his belief the Pro Bowl has run its course. ""There's no one that can watch that and say, 'Oh boy, we're on to something here. This is pretty doggone good, man. The fans love this. Listen to them.'"
