Daily Madden: Tiger's Amazing Shot
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Tiger Woods won the Memorial Sunday with the help of a chip-in on 16 that he called the toughest shot he ever made. Was it the greatest golf shot ever?
"If Jack Nicklaus says it was, it was," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "Tiger did it, Jack Nicklaus said it was the best, John Madden is going to go with that."
Trailing by two strokes, Woods birdied three of the last four holes, including the flop shot into the hole on the par three 16th.
"If you leave it short, it's going to go one way," Madden said. "If you go long, you're back in the water. so your alternative is perfect."
Two days before the Madden-Mariucci Battle of the Bay charity bocce tournament, Madden again criticized the play of his bocce nemesis, former 49er and Cal coach Steve Mariucci.
"There's more competitor in him than there is talent. That can make a jerk out of any of us," Madden said. "He brings good passion and emotion, not a lot of talent." (7:45)
