Daily Madden: There's No Pouting In Football
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Whether 49er quarterbacks Colin Kaepernick or Alex Smith gets the nod to start Sunday's game in St. Louis, the other needs to be ready to play.
"That's why the quarterbacks get paid that big money, to act like a pro," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "The guy that doesn't start, he's only one play away from playing the whole game. There's no time to pout. I think if you're going to pout, you maybe have to save that for March and April. But you can't do it now. You have to attack it the same way, you have to prepare the same way, your mind has to be in it. Because, like I say, even though you don't start, that doesn't mean you're not going to play."
The former coach said he expects Kaepernick to get the start based on his stellar play in both the Chicago and New Orleans games.
Meanwhile, Madden said the Rams coaches should be preparing to face both 49er quarterbacks.
"As a (backup) quarterback has to be ready," Madden said, "a defense has to be ready too." (7:10)
