Daily Madden: The Saints Come Marching Back
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Drew Brees passed for 413 yards and four touchdowns as the Saints beat the previously unbeaten Miami Dolphins 38-17 in New Orleans Monday night.
"(The Saints) kind of took a sabbatical last year and everyone forgot about them, and forgot about Drew Brees," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "He's the guy who makes it all work. He's so smooth and so accurate and so cool. That combination of the head coach and the quarterback -- there's nothing perfect in that thing, but that's very, very close."
The Saints join the Broncos, Seahawks, Chiefs and Patriots as the NFL's undefeated teams.
"Denver is the best team, and then Seattle would be next," Madden said. "The other three are a little below for one reason or another... The New Orleans Saints are just a half step below both Seattle and Denver."
Because of the Oakland A's playoff game at the Coliseum this weekend, the Raiders game against the Chargers won't start until 8:30 Sunday night.
"Players are so young and adaptive and adjusted, it really doesn't affect them," Madden said. "It's not a good situation for fans. It's tougher on the fans than it is on the players." (8:20)
