Daily Madden: The Risks Of Wearing On Field Microphones
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - An NFL Network microphone on one of the Super Bowl refs caught him saying "Wow, that's the game" when Patriots receiver Wes Welker dropped a pass from quarterback Tom Brady in the fourth quarter.
John Madden told the KCBS morning crew he's fine with putting microphones on some participants.
"I think it's good, if it's not you," Madden said. "I like to see other people do it and hear other people, but I never wanted to be part of it... You're mic'd up for four hours or so, and in the process of four hours you're going to say and do some real stupid things. Sometimes those stupid things are things get highlighted."
For the second round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, John said he'll hang out at the CBS compound again.
"We do have the television trucks... You can watch all the venues.... It's a lazy man's way of being everywhere at once."
Madden said he never asks to run any of the equipment.
"I don't touch, nor do I ask," Madden said. "That's a pretty serious thing... For some hamburger to come in and say 'hey, can I play?,' no. I just shut up and try to make myself small, which is hard." (8:25)
