Daily Madden: The Return Of Jeff Garcia
HOUSTON (KCBS) - Looking for backup quarterbacks, the Houston Texans signed Jeff Garcia, the former 49er QB from San Jose State who turns 42 in February.
"The position of quarterback is the most difficult position to play in the NFL," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew.
"There's not a lot of them that can do it well, and there's not a lot of them that can do it average. So guys as they that older that have done it, at least that gives you something." John said he thinks Garcia can contribute to a team that is in good position for a playoff spot. "They need not only a guy that can be insurance, but a guy that can come in and win a game or two."
Garcia hasn't played pro football since 2009. "At least he's been out there playing and getting in shape," John said. "He's a quick study... It may be ugly if he had to play a lot, but I think he's the type of guy that with some training with the club, if you had a lead and something happened, he could come in and protect the lead and get you through the game."
