Daily Madden: The Rangers Deserve More Credit
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The Texas Rangers took a three games to two lead in the World Series with their victory over the St. Louis Cardinals Monday night.
Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said an eighth-inning bullpen mix-up led to the wrong pitcher throwing to Texas hitter Mike Napoli, who blasted a two run double to give the Rangers the lead. John Madden told the KCBS morning crew that too much is being made of the bullpen mistake.
"It seems like it's not whether you win or lose anymore, it's when you lose, who do you blame?" Madden said. "I just think that sometimes these stories like the telephone to the bullpen didn't work therefore St. Louis lost is a bunch of baloney, and really doesn't give Texas the credit they deserve... You take one little part of it and beat that to death, and it's usually the part from the losing team. And I think it overshadows winning."
In NFL news, unsigned wide receiver Terrell Owens is holding a workout in hopes of attracting team scouts.
"I think it's going to be one of those deals that you throw a party and no one comes," Madden said. But John said some team managers may take a look at T.O.'s workout on the NFL Network in case they'll need a wide receiver to replace an injured player later in the season.
"Probably no one is going to sign him in the next day or two," Madden said, "but it's something you look at and you think 'do I keep this guy on my board or do I erase him?'" (9:25)
