Daily Madden: The Raiders Take A Step Back
OAKLAND (KCBS) - Raider quarterbacks Kyle Boller and Carson Palmer each threw three interceptions in Oakland's 28-0 loss to the Chiefs Sunday.
"Did (Kansas City) pass well? Not really. Did they run well? Not really. When you throw six interceptions, that was what the game was all about," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew.
Madden said he would not have played Carson Palmer, who the Raiders picked up in a trade after Jason Campbell was hurt last week. Palmer had not played this season before replacing Boller in the second half.
"I have too much respect for the game of football and the NFL and the position of quarterback to think that anyone can come in with three days of practice and play a regular season NFL game," the former coach said. "I think when you get Carson Palmer and pay what you pay, I think the Raiders have to be thinking long term, and not just one week or one game... I don't know that it's worth risking putting someone out there when they don't know what's going on."
In other Sunday NFL action, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers had another great game in Green Bay's victory over the Vikings.
"Aaron Rodgers is in that group now where he's playing very close to perfect," Madden said. "He has great balance. He always gets in balance, and I think he probably does that as well as or better than anyone." (8:40)
