Daily Madden: The Raiders' Quarterback Scramble
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Who will start the season at quarterback for the Oakland Raiders? "I would guess that the way it's gone Terrelle Pryor has to be that guy," John Madden told the KCBS Radio crew.
"He's the only guy that really gives them any spark," said Madden.
Pryor was listed as the starter for the Raiders' last pre-season game Thursday amid reports that Matt Flynn is hurt. "I don't know if (Flynn) got banged up or if it's just in his head," Madden said. "He didn't play very well and the fans were booing. And the last time they took him out he started to run on the field and they brought him out and put Pryor in... I don't if his arm was hurt or his feelings were hurt."
Across the bay, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was impressive in Sunday night's pre-season victory over the Vikings. "He just looks like he can do anything and everything,' Madden said. "He's riding high and has the confidence."
The quarterback issue in San Francisco is the competition between B.J. Daniels and Seneca Wallace for the third spot after Colt McCoy was named the back-up and Scott Tolzien was waived. "It looks like what the 49ers are trying to do is get quarterbacks that can do some of the same things as Kaepernick and not be a totally different quarterback," Madden said.
"It looks like to me that they're trying to develop guys that if something happens to Kaepernick, they can just use the same offense."
