Daily Madden: The Raiders Hire A Life Skills Coach

OAKLAND (KCBS) - The Oakland Raiders have hired Lamonte Winston as their first full-time Director of Player Engagement.

Winston has "over 25 years of experience advising and consulting professional athletes in both life skills and post-NFL career development," according to the team's website.

John Madden told the KCBS morning crew hiring someone like Winston is a good idea for any team.

"An athlete gets out of school and he may get more money in his first year than he's ever going to make the rest of his life," Madden said. "He is a boy. I mean he has no experience doing this, and he's doing it at the highest level."

Madden said advising young players on life skills is a continuing process.

"They need to hear it that night, and the next day, and they need to hear it all the time... and the most important thing is does it get through to the position where they apply it." (8:00)
