Daily Madden: The QB Question In Philly
SAN FRANCISCO (KBCS) - Quarterback Nick Foles, who led the Eagles to victory over the Buccaneers last Sunday, may start against the Cowboys this Sunday as Michael Vick continues to nurse a hamstring injury.
"It's a different Philadelphia team (with Foles)," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "If you like that read option at quarterback, being able to run, you would say you'd rather have Michael Vick in there. I think Nick Foles is more of the traditional NFL quarterback, (with) probably a slower-paced Eagle team, maybe a little more accurate. I can see either side of that. If I were a coach, I would not want to play against Michael Vick, because that additional threat of being able to run really messes with your defense."
Madden said it's a key game for both the Cowboys and Eagles.
"This is a weak division. None of them are really playing well, and that includes the Eagles and the Cowboys, and the Giants and the Redskins... Dallas and Philadelphia may be the top two contenders, and of those two Dallas may be the top contender. But that doesn't make them a top team."
John likes the Bears in their game against the Redskins this weekend.
"Chicago is better than Washington," John said, while noting the team's inconsistency. "Jay Cutler is capable of throwing five touchdowns passes in any game that he plays. He really is something when he gets on fire. On the other side of that, he can throw five interceptions in a game." (6:50)
