Daily Madden: The Pro Bowl Twitter Experiment
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Players are banned from using electronic devices before, during and after regular season and NFL playoff games. But for the Pro Bowl this weekend, the league is setting up computers on the sidelines and encouraging players to tweet.
"I don't like starting that," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "It's just another one of those things that is you know 'hey, look at me.' Isn't that more of an 'I' thing than a 'we' thing? More of an individual thing than a team thing?"
Madden said the Pro Bowl is one of three areas where the league needs to improve - the others being pre-season games and end of the season games featuring a team that has already clinched a playoff spot.
"(The Pro Bowl) is anti-climactic," the former coach said, which is one reason why it's been moved to the week before the Super Bowl rather than the week after.
In other NFL news, Commissioner Roger Goodell has signed a seven year contract extension.
"He got two big things done with the new television contracts for nine years... and then the labor agreement for ten years," Madden said, noting Goodell also does a good job handling the demands of the 32 team owners.
"He just knows how to bob and weave and once in awhile take a standing eight count and go to the neutral corner. He can do that well." (8:05)
