Daily Madden: The Perfect Play At Home Plate
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - In the second inning of World Series Game Two at AT&T Park Thursday night, Giants catcher Buster Posey tagged out Tigers' first baseman Prince Fielder in a close play at home plate.
"I know people are critical now, you know, 'why did they send Fielder,' John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "He should have scored. It was that close, and it took a great play I think by the Giants, all the way from the relay throw, to Posey getting inside, giving him the plate, the swipe, the whole thing. It was probably a perfect play for the Giants, and I don't think that Detroit has to make any excuses for it."
Another key play was Gregor Blanco's bunt that the Tigers thought would roll foul. It didn't, and the bases were loaded for Brandon Crawford's double play grounder that scored the first run. The Giants won the game 2-0 and now lead the series by the same margin.
"The way things are going for the Giants now -- (pitcher Madison) Bumgarner last night coming back, that bunt, that perfect throw and relay and out at the plate -- things are just going their way. But having said that, I've been in it long enough to know that you have to make things happen, things don't just happen luckily for you." (7:10)
