Daily Madden: The Omnipresent Giants Fan
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - In recent series in San Diego and Seattle, there appeared to be as many Giants fans as Padres or Mariners fans in the local ballparks.
"You see that more and more in sports, don't you, where the visiting team sometimes has a larger crowd than the home team," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew.
"The Raiders fans for years have always gone down to San Diego. And I know that Giants fans have gone down to the Dodgers (games). The biggest example of that, I think, is the Cowboys. They travel well. Wherever the Cowboys play - and it's not just one place - you'll darn near see as many Cowboys fans as you'll see locals... Do you think being able to buy tickets over the internet has anything to do with it? That has to be a big part of it."
With the Summer Games approaching, John said he's been watching the Olympic team trials and is noticing a new look among the athletes.
"Everyone lifts weights now," John said. "Sprinters look like weightlifters. Have you seen the divers? Where did that come from? They used to be kind of smaller, skinny type people. Now they're big and thick (with) big shoulders and big arms. It's like they put them all on the same weight program." (8:40)
