Daily Madden: The Madden Cruiser's Armchair Olympian
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - John Madden is watching a lot of Olympics coverage on the Madden Cruiser on his way to the Pro Football Hall of Fame festivities in Canton, Ohio.
"In an Olympic year, stuff that you don't know anything about you get captivated by," Madden told the KCBS morning crew from Nebraska. "But even more importantly, I think you become an expert within ten minutes. Pretty soon you're criticizing them and saying 'why didn't they do that, or why didn't they stick that landing, or why did they wobble on the balance (beam).' You don't know a thing about it an hour before, and now you're an expert on it."
Madden said he favored the Olympics over coverage of NFL training camp reports.
"Training camps aren't the same as they were in your father's day," the former coach said. "They look awfully watered down to me. And you wonder why you are watching a watered-down first few days of training camp. How can that even be a thing? So I switched to the Olympics."
Madden said he's also seeing mile after mile of corn fields in Nebraska.
"I heard there was a problem," he said. "If anything, they look a little shorter... That's my corn report." (7:10)
