Daily Madden: The Inexcusable Bad Snap
SAN DIEGO (KCBS) - San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers fumbled a snap late in regulation in Monday night's game, leading to a 23-20 overtime loss to Kansas City. John Madden told the KCBS morning crew the mistake was inexcusable.
"It's just unbelievable. I really felt for (Chargers coach) Norv Turner," Madden said. "They did everything they had to do, and then they fumble the damn snap... That's not complex... that's the most basic thing in football, like brushing your teeth."
John's grandson Jesse is an eight year old quarterback on a flag football team in the East Bay.
"(Jesse is) knowing the concepts, pointing out the 'mike' (middle linebacker), you know kicking the leg to get motion. He still never fumbles the dog gone snap. And he's eight. I mean just a few years ago he was a baby, he was just rolling over."
In other NFL news, Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh met with league commissioner Roger Goodell about the penalties and fines Suh has received for rough play. Suh requested the meeting to get a better understanding of the rules.
"It's a good thing to get players' input," Madden said. "They have owner meetings and they have coaches meetings at the owner meetings, and they don't have a lot of players' meetings... Sometimes the league office just listening to players and getting their feelings on things I think is a pretty good thing." (9:10)
