Daily Madden: The Good Signs In The Raiders 0-8 Season
OAKLAND (KCBS) - The Raiders fought back from a big half-time deficit to come within a touchdown of beating the Seahawks in Seattle Sunday.
"We all know that Seattle is tough -- maybe they're not obviously what they were a year ago -- and we know that playing up there and the 12th man is very difficult," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "I think the fact that they were down and they came back is a big thing."
The Raiders defense and special teams played well in the 30-24 loss.
"I think one thing that they learned (is) if they're going to win -- and I think they will win a game or two -- is that other areas have to score," Madden said. "You know it's not all on the offense, it's not all on (quarterback) Derek Carr throwing and mixing in some run... They have to block a punt and score, they have to return a play on special teams. The defense has to get a turnover and score. That's the way they're going to do it. And they're getting closer to it."
As the only winless team in the league at 0-8, how difficult is it to keep the team motivated?
"You hope that they're pros," Madden said. "I don't know that any real pro has ever gone into a game where he gave up. Quitting is not an option. Not playing hard is not an option... You have to believe that you're going to win this one, that we're going to beat these guys. And then obviously you have to go out and do it." (6:45)
