Daily Madden: The Doug Martin Show
OAKLAND (KCBS) - Rookie Doug Martin ran for 251 yards and four touchdowns as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Raiders 42-32 in Oakland Sunday.
"I had seen (Martin) before and I thought he was pretty good," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "I didn't think he was that good. The Raiders doggone near put him in the Hall of Fame yesterday."
Martin is listed at only 5'9". "He's very, very quick," Madden said. "He would get to and through the hole, and he just made the Raiders look like grammar school kids trying to tackle him."
The Raiders mounted a comeback in the second half but it wasn't enough to overcome the Buccaneers running game.
"As a coach there's nothing more embarrassing or worse to you than not being able to stop the run," John said. "That's like not being able to take a punch." (6:45)
